Psalm 3

It is a terrible thing to experience the consequences of one's own sin.  David had committed adultery and murder and, as a consequence, God had said that he would have conflict within his house.  Boy, did he!  David's son, Absalom, had attempted a coup and many of David's enemies were rallying to Absalom's side.  David had to flee Jerusalem and fight for his kingdom.

Sometimes life feels like the words of this Psalm.  There are enemies rising against us.  People call our faith and integrity into question.  They may even say that you are not a believer and outside of salvation.  But at the end of the day it does not matter what people say about us.  What matters is what God says of us.

Conflict can be an opportunity to evaluate our lives, see where we've fallen short and confess our sins.  But when we are living in faith, conflict can also be an opportunity to grow in faith as we place ourselves in God's hands and trust him to be our shield and defender.  The one who lifts our heads so that we look up and see the glory He is revealing day by day.

Because God has provided salvation for us in Jesus we are able to face this world confidently and in peace.  At the end of each day we can close our eyes and rest.  No matter what we face God defends us.  Salvation belongs to our God!

Arise, O Lord!  Save me, O my God!  Rescue me from my enemies - the worst of which are Sin, Death and the Devil.  Help me to put my confidence in Jesus and live in the salvation He won on the cross.  Amen.
