Dear Church,
Good rainy Monday to you! God waters the earth and the plants grow and flourish.
When I think of all the systems that God put in place to sustain this earth, I find myself in awe. Weather patterns, gravity, the tilt of the earth and its impact on seasons, and growth of plant, animals, and even ourselves are a few examples.
We can learn a lot about this world by studying, dissecting, observing, asking, and experiencing. Yet for all the things we’ve learned since the creation of the world, there are times that we come up against things we just do not understand.
I’m not talking so much about how things work now. Now I am wading into that terrible question of; “Why do things happen?”
Some people believe that we are fated to have certain experiences. Others believe that everything that happens is by chance and choice. But when life is out of control and we are overwhelmed by what we are experiencing and we are powerless we start looking around and asking, “Why?” And ultimately that question is laid at God’s feet.
Frustratingly, God doesn’t always answer us when we ask, “Why?”
Actually, that’s not quite right. God doesn’t always explain Himself when we ask, “Why?” He does always answer our prayers and act on behalf out of His good and loving will for us. It’s just that we don’t always understand what He’s doing or how He will bring good into our situation. Besides that, we often have this nagging doubt in the back of our heads that causes us to hedge our bets, acting as though God needs our help.
The thing is; God doesn’t need our help. We need His. He pours out his blessing on us as He knows we need them. His grace is always enough. His salvation is always sufficient. Even when we feel like we’re eating the crumbs of life, God’s gifts are sufficient.
Trust God. He loves you so much that He gave His only-begotten Son to die for you. He will see you through your week, your trials and tribulations, and your hurts and needs. And when it’s all said and done we will look back and praise God, because we will see that He is faithful.
