Reading: Psalm
99
This Psalm is appointed for Transfiguration Sunday
because of its mention of Moses and God’s vengeance against wrongdoing. It is
calls us to worship and to consider God’s holiness as we relate to Him.
I don’t like to comment too much on Psalms – which is not
to say that I won’t comment on them. However, I think their poetic form, their
repetition, and their worshipful tone is often best engaged with prayer, asking
the Holy Spirit to open our hearts and minds with faith.
How might considering God’s holiness impact your life as
a believer in Jesus? How could it change how you view yourself and others? How
might His holiness enhance your appreciation of His forgiveness?
O Holy Spirit, You
inspired those who wrote the Psalms and all the Scriptures. Open our hearts and
minds to hear Your Word and to believe it so that we ultimate believe God and
trust in Him in all things. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
