March 28 - Psalm 32

From Jesus’ account of the Prodigal Son, to Isaiah’s expression of joyful worship because of God’s salvation, to Paul’s declaration that if anyone is in Christ that person is a new creation, we come to Psalm 32 that declares, “Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”

This psalm shows us that we are blessed. Furthermore, it leads us to confess our sins in the certainty of God’s forgiveness. It places us firmly in the steadfast of the LORD, so that we may be glad and rejoice in him – which means to rejoice in his presence among us, his acts of salvation for us, and all that he does for us. We know this all the more clearly than the psalmist did because we have experienced all of these things through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.

O LORD, we are so blessed to be forgiven in Jesus’ death. Let your blessings of salvation lead us into confession and prayer. Fill us with faith to receive your instruction and to go in your way, O God. Please fill us with gladness because you are our God. Give us joy because you are our LORD. Amen.
