Four Things on Friday

An Interesting
Article/Podcast
This 5-minute
podcast will consist of stories from the past about the saints and sinners who
have shaped the history of the church and will conclude with a piece of prose,
poetry, and reminder that everything is going to be okay. I’ve been listening
to it every morning after my devotion for a little dose of “this day in church
history.” Dr. Daniel van Voorhis is professor of modern history and political
science at Concordia University, Irvine.
Quote I’m
Pondering
“Remember that the rumors of grace, forgiveness, and the
redemption of all things are true. Everything is going to be okay.” – Dr. van
Voorhis. This is his tag line after each episode of The Christian History
Almanac.
One Good Thing
This Week
I am on vacation this week, so I don’t know what has been
going on at Gloria Dei this week! That being said, last week there was a young
lady in our congregation who received the Lord’s Supper for the first time.
This was something she desired, so she studied Scripture and the Catechism and
expressed her faith that the Lord’s Supper is Jesus’ gift for the forgiveness
of sins for her. What a joy it was to hear her say that she believes that this
sacrament is for her!
Our Scripture
readings for the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost are:
Over the years I have learned that those who read the
Scripture lessons and spend a little time thinking about them before church on
Sunday get more out of the service.
The sermon is provided by Rev. Dr. David Zachrich while I
am on vacation.
