An Interesting
Article/Podcast
Jeff Mallinson is Associate Professor Theology and
Philosophy at Concordia University, Irvine. He was also one of the presenters
at the National Youth Gathering. He has a fascinating life story, which he
tells in this video: raised by hippie parents, abused in a Christian School, a
recipient of spiritual abuse who found his church’s teachings differed greatly
from Jesus, and a recipient of God’s grace and mercy. This video is from a
different convention, but the content is really good. The video quality is not
great, so you might want to just listen instead of watching.
Quote I’m
Pondering
“How is God using the gifts He gave you to make the world
better?” – Rev. Keith Haney, Mission Facilitator of the Norther Illinois District
LCMS in his presentation Our View of
Justice Impacts Evangelism.
One Good Thing
This Week
The National Youth Gathering was so good. I got to spend
time with the youth and chaperones. There were good conversations, heart
wrenching moments, opportunities to love one another, and time to stand in God’s
love and grace as brothers and sisters in Christ. I’m looking forward to 2022.
Our Scripture
readings for the 6th Sunday after Pentecost are:
Over the years I have learned that those who read the
Scripture lessons and spend a little time thinking about them before church on
Sunday get more out of the service.
Luke 10:38-42
Genesis 18:1-14
Colossians 1:21-29
Psalm 27:7-14
The sermon is provided by the Rev. Dr. David Zachrich
while I am on vacation.
