Peter Nafzger is an assistant professor of Practical
Theology at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. I appreciated his article because I
often find our learned theologians of the LCMS speaking or writing critically
of the National Youth Gathering. I feel that Dr. Nafzger cuts through the form
to take a closer look at the substance, and his observations are hopeful.

One Good Thing
This Week
On Thursday the staff of the church and preschool walked
through the building and prayed for our preschool and the upcoming school year.
We prayed at the main entrance, in the Sanctuary, at the preschool entrance,
and in each area of the preschool. We took time to pray for each member of our
preschool staff, too, that God’s Spirit would empower them to be both educators
and witnesses of God’s love in Christ for their students. And, of course, a
good part of the prayers focused on the children who we are blessed to have in
our preschool.

Over the years I have learned that those who read the
Scripture lessons and spend a little time thinking about them before church on
Sunday get more out of the service.
