A Poem - Hannah

Hannah
Murmuring and mumbling
Begging and pleading
A wife with a rival
Goaded by what she had not been granted
Bitter tears stream down her cheeks.
As her heart cried in deep distress
But the priest thinks her drunk
Shame upon shame
But she prays
Worthy woman thought worthless
Anxious and vexed
She prays
And God hears
He remembers
He opens her womb to conceive
A boy she named
“God Hears”
And Hannah lent him to the Lord.
To serve Him.
But when the time was hard
God heard again his people’s plight
He sent Hannah’s answer
Like a prophet
Like a priest
Like a king
To proclaim God’s salvation
To prevail in the Spirit’s power
To prepare God’s people
And to anoint a king whose heir
Would reign forever
God’s Word and Sacrifice
Hannah’s Rock who
Kills and brings to life
Takes down to death and raises up
Who showed her God hears
By bringing life from her.
