Four Things on Friday

An Interesting Podcast
In 2015 Drs. Dan VanVoorhis and Kristen Koenig took some
of their students from Concordia University, Irvine, to Selma, AL for the 50th
Anniversary of the Bloody Sunday and the Selma to Montgomery marches in 1965.
They talk about the experience with four of the students who came with them,
and delve into the strong Christian roots of the Civil Rights movement. This
seemed like a really good episode to listen to as our nation prepares to
observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday.
Quote I’m
Pondering
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do
that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King,
Jr., Easter 1958
One Good Thing
This Week
It was a little saddening to the fallen walls of the new
building on Sunday. The wild windy weather really took its toll! The crew got
in and got things back together quickly and things are rolling along again.
Work has begun (finally!) on the sewer, too!
I have also had several people stop me at LifeCenter Plus
to ask about the construction. They always seem genuinely happy for us and
excited about the work we’re doing here at Gloria Dei. I also think that it’s
good that people are taking notice of us.
Our Scripture
readings for the Second Sunday after Epiphany are:
Over the years I have learned that those who read the
Scripture lessons and spend a little time thinking about them before church on
Sunday get more out of the service.
The sermon is: “Behold, the Lamb of God!”
