April 17 - Evening Devotion

Good Evening, Lord!
Words of Comfort
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Prayer of Confession
Lighten our darkness, O Lord, and by Your great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night. Forgive us for the sins we have committed this day, those we know and those of which we are unaware; for the love of You only Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.[1]

Catechism Reflections
The Sacrament of Holy Baptism: Second
What benefit does Baptism give?
It works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare.

Which are those words and promises of God?
Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark: “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”

Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer
“And lead us not into temptation.”
Father in heaven, You tempt no one. Please guard and keep us so that the devil, the world, and our sinful nature may not deceive us or mislead us into false belief, despair, and other great shame and vice. Although we are attacked by these things, we pray that we may finally overcome them and win the victory through Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Verse of Benediction
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Cor. 13:14 ESV)
