May 2: Evening Devotion

Good Evening, Lord!
Words of Comfort
Jesus Christ is the Light of the world, the light no darkness can overcome.[1]

Prayer of Confession
O God, the Creator and Preserver of all humanity, we humbly intercede with you for all people; that you would be pleased to make your ways knows to them, your saving health to all nations. More especially we pray for your holy universal Church; that it may be so guided and governed by your good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves Christians may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life. Finally, we commend to your fatherly goodness all those who are in any way afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or spirit; that it may please you to comfort and relieve them, according to their many needs; giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy way out of all their afflictions. And we beg this for Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.[2]

The Seventh Petition of the Lord’s Prayer - “But deliver us from evil.”
Dear Father, please rescue us from every evil of body and soul, possessions and reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a blessed end, and graciously take us from this valley of sorrow to heaven, where will live eternally with You, and with Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, One God, now and forever. Amen.

Verse of Benediction
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Ps. 23:6 ESV)
