Epiphany – Shining a Light on Jesus

Mission of God: Witness

Great Commission: Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Acts 1:8 – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

1 Peter 2:9 - But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Too Much Pressure?

-        God’s Mission is God’s Mission. Jesus leads the flock. The Spirit calls, gather, and enlightens.

Wrong Subject?

-        Is the message about me?

o   My actions.

o   My change.

o   My goodness.

o   We are forgiven.

-        Is the message on the Law?

o   Do these things

o   Christianity reduced to rules

o   “Be nice.” Is not the same as, “Love your neighbor.”

-        Does the message ignore the Law?

o   Simply therapy.

o   Speak the truth in love.

o   Deal with root causes.

Lord’s Prayer – Hallowed be Thy Name

-        Our words reflect God’s Word.

-        Our lives show our faith and hope.

People hear. People see. As we are going through life, God will call on us to witness – to testify – about what He has done for us.

-        Doesn’t need to be complex.

-        Doesn’t need to be contrived.

-        It just needs to be faithful.
