Message: Mercy

The mission work of the church is often tied to mercy.

-        Historically

o   Feed the hungry.

o   Help the poor.

o   Care for the most vulnerable (widows and orphans).

-        Present

o   We still work in many of these areas

§  Sandwich People

o   Often our participation is through donations.

o   Many still lend their time and talents to serve their neighbors.

Two movements

-        Corporate

o   Chainsaw Ministry

-        Personal

o   Sandwich People started this way.

o   Helping a neighbor.

-        Both are needed.

Mercy ministry is about people.

-        Luther – God does not need your good works, but your neighbor does.

-        1 Corinthians 13 – charity.

A natural way to share your faith.

-        Your actions communicate your values.

-        These activities are often accompanied with conversation.

-        You don’t have to be weird about it, but there can be a real opportunity to:

o   Bless

o   Talk about Jesus.

Embracing wo we are:

    -     Star Wars – “I’m a Mandalorian. Weapons are part of my religion.”

    -    Real Life – “I’m a Christian. Mercy is part of my religion.”

Don't undervalue the importance of prayer in Mercy Ministry.
