A Rite – Ritual

-        A Tradition.

-        Sacred?

-        Important?

-        Yes!

-        Necessary?

-        Essential?

-        No.

 Affirmation of our Baptism

-        “I am a child of God.”

-        “I am forgiven.”

-        Embracing our identity as a follower of Jesus.

8^th Grade

-        Again, tradition.

-        Pros and cons.

-        Tied to receiving the Lord’s Supper?

 Confession of Faith

Promises of Faithfulness

-        “I do, by the grace of God.”

A Mixed Experience

-        A good confession – Matthew 10:32

-        A sad result – many do not return.

o   Priorities formed by the world?

o   Low value placed on what we receive in worship?

o   An attitude of graduation?

o   These and other things?

-        A good time for our own confession and absolution.
