-        Big country estate.

-        Excited for animals – a little foreshadowing!

-        But the next day it is raining, so they explore the house.

Wardrobe

-        “It is a very silly thing to shut oneself into a wardrobe.”

-        Fur coats give way to fir tree branches.

First Glimpse of Narnia

-        Tumnus

o   Faun – from Roman mythology

o   We learn that this is a world without humans – with the possible exception of the queen.

o   It is “always winter and never Christmas”

o   Tumnus is a kidnapper – “I had orders from the White Witch that if ever I saw a Son of Adam or a Daughter of Eve in the wood, I was to catch them and hand them over to her.”

§  Mystery! Why?

-        A World in Rebellion – All is not well.

o   Genesis 3

-        A World with a sense of right and wrong

o   Tumnus repents

§  Change of heart

§  Does what is right – helps Lucy return

o   Lucy forgives

Lucy Returns

-        The others cannot return to Narnia – the Wardrobe is “normal”

o   Small Catechism, Apostles’ Creed, 3rd Article

o   Highlights that sometimes we tell the truth and are not believed and earthly proof is not available.

-        Sets up a conflict with Edmund

o   His experience will be the focus of our next episode.
