The Psalms of Ascent
Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2 It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious toil;
for he gives to his beloved sleep.
3 Behold, children are a
heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one's youth.
5 Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.

Picking Up Where We Left Off
What is God’s purpose/plan?
-
Genesis 3:15 – “I will put enmity between
you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
-
Genesis 12:2-3 – “I will make of you a
great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will
be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you
I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
-
Isaiah 42:5-9 - Thus says God,
the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people on it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
“I am the Lord; I have called you[a] in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you;
I will give you as a covenant for the people,
a light for the nations,
to open the eyes that are
blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.
Behold, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth
I tell you of them.”
-
Isaiah 49:6 - “It is too light a thing
that you should be my servant
to raise up the tribes of Jacob
and to bring back the preserved of Israel;
I will make you as a light for the nations,
that my salvation may reach to the end of the
earth.”
-
Luke 19:10 – “…the Son of Man came to
seek and to save the lost.”
-
Luke 24:47 - “These are my words that I
spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me
in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be
fulfilled.” Then he opened their minds to understand the
Scriptures, and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the
Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and
that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be
proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”
-
John 1:14-18 - And the
Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his
glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace
and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he
of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was
before me.’”) For from his fullness we have all received, grace
upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth
came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only
God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.
-
John 20:31 - … these are written
so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and
that by believing you may have life in his name.
- 1 Timothy 2:1-6 - First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
Again, what is God’s purpose/plan?
Romans 8:28-29
28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Verse of the Week – Luke 16:10-11
But godliness with contentment is great gain, 7 for we
brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take
anything out of the world.
