April 2 - Romans 10:9-15

10:9-13

You will be saved.

Belief results in righteousness.

Confession (of faith) results in salvation.

            This is why we have Creeds and Confirmation.

            These rites give us words and form our speech.

Isaiah 28:16 – “Look, I have laid a stone in Zion,
a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation;
the one who believes will be unshakable.”

There is no distinction between Jew and Greek

“The same Lord of all richly blesses all who call on Him.”

Joel 2:32 – Then everyone who calls
on the name of the Lord will be saved,
for there will be an escape
for those on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem,
as the Lord promised,
among the survivors the Lord calls.

10:14-15

How will they learn to call upon Jesus?

The right motivation matters. Sometimes mission/evangelism is wrongly done.

            Colonialism

            Cultural hegemony

            Moralism

            The LAW instead of the GOSPEL

God can work even this for good – see Philippians 1:12-19!

Evangelism is a beautiful thing.

            It flows from love for God.

            It is driven by love for the neighbor.

            It is drawing people to the righteousness from faith.

Isaiah 52:7 – How beautiful on the mountains
are the feet of the herald,
who proclaims peace,
who brings news of good things,
who proclaims salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”

Nahum 1:15 – Look to the mountains—
the feet of the herald,
who proclaims peace.
Celebrate your festivals, Judah;
fulfill your vows.
For the wicked one will never again
march through you;
he will be entirely wiped out.
