Things You Didn’t Learn In Sunday School About … Priscilla and Aquila

You may or may not have heard about them – important, but not major figures.

Acts 18 – They were Jews who were expelled from Rome by Claudius Caesar – all the Jews.

They went to Corinth, and while they were there, they met Paul.

They were tentmakers – and Paul joined them as that was his trade as well.

They became partners in the Gospel

                              They traveled with him.

They heard Apollos, who played an important role in the early church, and they took                                 him aside to, “explain the way of God more accurately.” Esp. regarding Baptism.

Paul includes them in the greetings at the ends of three letters.

                                             To them in Romans 16

From them in 1 Corinthians 16

To them in 2 Timothy 4

They are an example of the Partnership of Christian Marriage

Husband and wife are meant to walk together in faith.

They home was a place of witness – the case with Apollos – and that is true for all Christian homes, married or no!

Purpose outside of self – important for all, but maybe less intuitively in marriage.

They are an example of the importance of vocation.

               Vocation – Work and Relationship

It opened up opportunity for partnership.

They were blessed to support the ministry of spreading the Gospel.

Their work put them where they could share the Gospel.

They are an example of normal people living by faith.

               Paul – and his team!

               Apollos

Testimony to many through their work, troubles, life.
